Sexual Health Week reminds us to pay attention to our nether regions, privates, naughty bits …. Who we’re sharing them with and how we’re doing it too!
Stats suggest condom complacency! Would it surprise you you to know that one of the highest #STI increases has been the 45+ crowd. Whilst it’s great to know the stigma of ‘older peeps sex’ is dwindling, it brings to the fore some serious issues.
14% of 50-70 year olds report having had three or more sexual partners in the previous five years.
With the easy availability of Viagra, Tinder type dating and a growing number of ‘mature’ singles, it’s the perfect STI storm. The ‘it won’t happen to me’ mindset is contributing to some unsightly stats:
Syphilis is up 20% (7k)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Gonorrhoea up by 22% to 45k.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These are amongst the half a million diagnosed STI’s last year across the country.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
London has the highest rate in the UK, followed by Brighton/Hove, Plymouth, Manchester and Bournemouth.
There’s a clinic near you, if you haven’t been checked out and harbour even a lingering doubt that you should be, do it. You’ll thank yourself and so will your future partners.
Dirty sex is one thing, diseases are quite another!
