Rich vs Classy – Make it or Fake it?

My son went to lunch at a swish London restaurant yesterday and this morning, hangover in tow, was smiling as he recounted the tale of the guys at the next table spending half an hour comparing watches, the make and the cost.  His youth exposed as he said to me with wonder “They didn’t look as though they were rich at all, I wonder if the watches were fake?”

That got me thinking about what ‘rich’ looks like and  I instantly stumbled upon this article* “According to Massachusetts Institute of Technology researcher Renee Richardson Gosline (yeah, that’s right, MIT is interested in your handbag), consumers are far more likely to identify a counterfeit bag as real when worn by someone that “looks” rich and a real bag as counterfeit when worn by someone that “looks” poor. I’m not sure why that would come as a huge surprise to anyone, but the fact that its been scientifically confirmed means that we can all congratulate ourselves”

That makes perfect sense (though I’m not sure the same could be said for the subject qualifying for scientific research)  but what is looking rich about?  Is it the right labels or is it an undefinable quality that gives an air of confidence, a whiff of not caring what people think and a pinch of superiority?  I think so!

7 Easy Steps for 2010 Resolution Success.

Ok, I give in!  I’m getting way too much grief from people wanting to know what I am putting out there as my own resolutions and my approach to ensure success!

Well, let’s be honest, the first thing is to publicise my intentions to the world on my website!  When working with a clear objective  I recommend you let everyone know exactly what your goal is and by when, send out an email to your nearest and dearest informing of the implications and where you might need support.  So here goes:

ONE OF MY RESOLUTIONS FOR THE NEW YEAR:

  1. TO SWIM FRONT CRAWL – 100 LENGTHS BY THE TIME I GO ON HOLIDAY!

Take the swimming as an example and here is the strategy that ensures I will achieve and enjoy the process:

  1. What I have at the moment:   Currently I perform like a drowning rat in the water, cutting a clumsy dash in any pool with a combo of doggie paddle and breast stroke.  With my head pushed so far out of the water my neck aches before a length is completed, it’s a painful scenario to watch and deliver – in every sense of the word!  I deeply envy those who make swimming seem a pleasure as they glide through the water like Esther Williams and I am ashamed to admit I waste energy and time wishing I could emulate them.

A Broken Heart at Christmas?

There’s NO need to miss your past,

THERE’S A GOOD REASON IT DIDN’T MAKE IT INTO YOUR FUTURE.

Thinking about somebody you had in your life who is no longer part of  your Christmas?  This time of year can bring back memories, allow us to romanticise and fantasise and for what?  That empty feeling, or the dull pain grudgingly associated with the remnants of a  broken heart!

By all means allow yourself to wallow in your romantic abyss and be clear that it can be a long way to fall, strap on your bungee ropes and when you’re ready to bounce back to reality, take charge of your happiness and stand tall, there are some thoughts I would like to share with you.

'Moan Box' – A Great Way to Clear Your Mind

“If you correct your mind,

the rest of your life will fall into place.”

Lao Tzu

One of my greatest joys in life is people watching, I happily sit and wile away two or three skinny latte’s immersed in this colourful and unpredictable hobby.  I am often shocked by people spending so much time moaning at the tables around me.  Griping about the weather, the latest malady, the cost of things, how the train was late…. Now I get that these are things that can prove irksome, they might even wipe the shine off our moment but at what cost to us when we are still talking about the irritation/inconvenience three hours later and living it all over again with another person?  What are we creating in our lives if this is the stuff we are focussing on?

Imagine if you had a ‘moan’ box.  Something like a piggy bank.  Every time you had a moan about something you would immediately secure it in its beautifully designed box and turn your attention and energy towards something positive in your moment.

How to Make NY Resolutions Work For You!

TWO KINDS OF RESOLUTIONS

TYPE ONE – Decide not to do something anymore

TYPE TWO – Decide to do something you don’t do

If  you are planning to give up, quit, relinquish an old habit, cut something out of your life you are used to having

This requires careful planning and thought.

You are likely to be currently doing ‘it’ out of habit which means you’re not likely to be using your conscious mind.

Begin to prepare your mind for the change,

What are you going to do instead of your old habit?

Rehearse the NEW HABIT time and again in your mind.

Replace the pictures and thoughts that old thing with the new one!

Keep doing this until it is natural in your mind.

If your old habit is seen in colour with sound, make sure the new habit is given the same sensory attention but turn the new habit up louder and make the colour even brighter!

You are beginning to have real vision!  Keep it coming!

What have you planned to do about the suffering?

How to make 2010 the BEST YEAR of YOUR LIFE

MAKE 2010 THE BEST YEAR OF YOUR LIFE

IT ALL STARTS IN YOUR HEAD  -  A good attitude can overcome anything.

If you think it will or it won’t you are probably right.

Get your mind in good order.

If you are finding it difficult to get your head around this simple equation let me put it another way…….  How successful have you been in believing this is not the case?

How in control of and confident about your future have your beliefs left you?

How would you behave differently if you did believe the first paragraph in this article?
