New Year Resolutions – 5 Must Have Tips to Ensure Yours Succeed!
“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.” Lao-tzu
Whether you want to find true love, lose excess weight or change your career; it’s time to set your intentions for 2011!
BEFORE you make your resolutions; here are 5 tips to ensure you get results:
Evaluate 2010 – Awareness
Evaluate your success, growth and failures in 2010. Where did you fall down, get stuck and where did you stand tall? Work out what was missing and focus on what stopped you achieving the results you hoped for. The danger of missing out this essential part of the process is a lack of awareness will have you running those old unwanted and unhelpful patterns again and again.
Clarity – Will
Now you are clear about your patterns and pitfalls, assess what is important to you for 2011 and why. Most New Year intentions are written on the back of a fag packet and re-enforced with a momentary blast of determination. Start as you mean to go on; by changing your strategy! List the benefits of achieving your objective and how this impacts other areas of your life. Is the effort worth the gain? There needs to be a significant margin of benefit outweighing the effort in order to succeed. Consistent motivation is achieved with focus on the results and benefits.
Check for Conflict – Congruence
A conflict of interests is one of the greatest unconscious blocks to achieving goals. Check your intention is in alignment with your values, other goals and who you are choosing to be.
Look for Difference – Patterns
If you usually shout your intentions from the rooftops then fall before the finishing line or set off full steam ahead to the detriment of other areas of you life ……. notice these old patterns and change them. If we always do what we have always done – we will always get what we have always got! The only way to succeed in change is to alter our patterns.
Enlist Help – Accountability
You probably know what you ‘should’ be doing in order to achieve your goals however your unconscious mind likes the familiar and will do everything in its considerable power to lead you back to that well trodden old path. Book your Coaching sessions today, whilst you are fired up, to get your new pattern of thinking and behaviour ingrained until it becomes automatic. It takes six weeks to make or break a habit and having professional support and accountability can be the difference between success and failure.
Here’s wishing you an extra-ordinarily successful and happy New Year, a 2011 that sees your dreams become your reality!

great stuff – thank you! I especially love the first tip about taking stock of last year before racing on with plans for next year. I know I’m all ready to embrace 2011, but you’re right; spending time reflecting on the things that worked and those that didn’t is powerful self awareness…
Right….I am off to the spa to reflect and plan. Thanks Michelle! x
